O’Reilly & McDermott is primarily a third party public entity defense firm in tort litigation. Tomaryn & O’Reilly began in 1987 and later became Tomaryn, O’Reilly & McDermott. In 2003, the present firm of O’Reilly & McDermott was formed.

Paul O’Reilly and Thomas McDermott attended law school at night on a part time basis while also working full time as claim adjusters, supervisors, and/or branch managers. It is this unique experience that enables O’Reilly & McDermott to view a case from a principal’s perspective as to cost management and from a client’s perspective as to aggressive representation.

PAUL O’REILLY obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Loyola University of Chicago and a Juris Doctorate from Northrop University. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1984.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. O’Reilly was employed as a senior investigator and litigation supervisor for a national claims investigation company. Since being admitted to practice, Mr. O’Reilly defended clients in trade secret actions, commercial bank foreclosure litigation, as well as premises and auto liability cases for public entities.

THOMAS F. MCDERMOTT obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology research from California State University, Long Beach. He thereafter worked as a courier for UPS. He worked at State Farm as a liability claims examiner and began attending law school at night, obtaining his Juris Doctorate from the University of West Los Angeles in 1994. He was admitted to the California State Bar that same year.

Mr. McDermott has appeared in both Federal and State courts representing clients in premises, personal injury, and products litigation.
